Just Another Dang How To Channel

Earlier last month I finally started a new Youtube Channel, it was an idea to start a tutorial course for topics I am most passionate about and doing at the moment. I was already doing this by blogging but found that doing video is soo much fun. I have started some PHP HowTos, Salesforce Communities HowTos and some Mac HowTos. I’ll probably match a video tutorial and a blog post in the future. Plan to grow channel with more HowTos as I further develop my skills in Javascript(nodejs, reactjs), mobile development(IOS and Android). Though still in it’s first month I have some decent views and have a very supportive comments from viewers.

Check out my channel and subscribe.

2016 Highlights and 2017 Goals

2017 is just around the corner, 2016 may go down as my most memorable year. I have lost a very dear someone, but amidst all of that I have grown mentally stronger and I can say I have achieved most of the goals I have set.

Listing some highlights of my year.

  • Financial growth
    • achieved my target stock portfolio
    • paid house mortgage extra to decrease the monthly amortizations
    • increased my mutual funds and emergency funds
    • slowly achieving my retirement plan
  • Career growth
    • got promoted at work
    • grew my skills and looked up as being an expert
    • attended my first ever Dreamforce
  • Family and health
    • family is whole again as they have migrated to NZ and followed me here
    • been consistently fit as I have been to the gym religiously for the past two years(but still need to fix my diet). Got into 75KG bulk and cutting down to 73KG.
    • crossed off from my bucket list as family got a new SUV
    • and new baby on the way!!

Now setting some very ambitious goal for 2017. Goals without a plan simply a wish.

  • Build my way up to Technical Architect
  • Be a Salesforce MVP
  • Revamp my blog again(I say this every year)
  • Be a Youtuber – I want to get back to my basic roots and just be creative again, I’ll dabble back in graphics design and venture into video editing
  • Have another source of passive income

Time of the Year

It’s that time of the year again where you look back and reflect on what you have accomplished and things you were not able to achieved.

Achieved Goals for 2014:

  • This year I started out with a goal to start investing for the future. I got into insurance, stocks, mutual funds and having 6 months emergency funds handy. I surpassed the goals I’ve set. My next goal for next year is to double those amount.
  • Migrated to New Zealand for a better standard of living. Been living in New Zealand for almost 9 months now. I don’t have my family with me which is the sad thing about the process but goal next year is to finally bring them here.
  • I wanted to grow and gain more experience with Saleforce and get involved in client facing projects. Achieved that to the company that employed me as a Senior Consultant for Business Apps.
  • Health side, I have been eating healthy and been working out daily. Increased my body mass from 65KG to 71KG.
  • Enhanced skills on Javascript, Visual force pages and programming in Apex.

In progress Goals for 2015:

  • Passed the DEV 501 multiple choice for salesforce but failed the programming assignment. Will retry again next year.
  • Took that Sales Cloud Certification and failed as I was unprepared. Will retake again next year.
  • Take the Service Cloud Certification.
  • Apply for Permanent Residence in New Zealand
  • Learn mobile programming
  • Get PHP Certified
  • Start a passive income project or app
  • Blog more and revamp for usability.
  • Be Salesforce MVP
  • Revive my travel and gobble website ( come up with a better use for it)

This is the initial draft and will add/remove more goals along the way for 2015.

Welcome 2014

Welcome 2014. 2013 went by so fast. It was so busy, fun, stressful yet productive. I want 2014 this time to be different I want to work smarter and not harder. Be effective vs being efficient, I was efficient but was not that effective meaning I was working more.

I have set some goals in the past and most of them I have accomplished. We got our new house, furnished it, started my woodworking hobby, got better in Salesforce and AWS, I got more healthy as I’m doing daily exercise with P90x and now Body Beast.

This time I would be more effective and be my “Super Self”. I’m going to reach new heights on goals I want to accomplished.

So bring it on 2014. Let’s all be rich!

Hit by Xoom Remittance to the Philippines

Seems alot of people are complaining on the new policy of Xoom. Xoom recently announced that they would stop remittance to the Philippines from non US credit cards or accounts.

http://blog.xoom.com/2010/03/new-minimum-send-amounts-payment-source.html

And later confirmed by an email I sent to their customer service.

Thank you for contacting Xoom Customer Service.

Firstly, I would like to apologize for inconvenience caused to you regarding this issue. Please be advised that in order to send money to the Philippines you need to have an US Bank account or a US Debit/Credit Card.
Apart from Philippines you can use International Credit card or US bank Account to transfer funds.

Currently we do not have any expected date of re-instating the services; but would encourage you to keep visiting our web-site for any update.

Thank you again for choosing Xoom.com – the Smarter Way to Send Money

Which means my employer in Dubai can no longer send with his local card and account on UAE.

Seems alot of people are hit by this change. Xoom has been actively stopping fraud transactions being done using their service and it has affected even those that uses their service for legit remittance.

I like the service alot for it is fast and can get the transaction done within the day. But time to search for an alternative. Any suggestions besides Paypal to bank transfer (which is normally 2-4 business days) and Western Union?

I keep losing Pagerank

I just noticed that I lost my pagerank on this blog again “Pagerank not Available”. Actually it has been on and off since last year. Check my post last year when my page rank disappered and then came back. Wierd, as I’m not doing any duplicate content and actually this blog hasnt that been active since my busy work schedule. I’ll look deep into this when I get some free time and keep this post updated.

Looking back at 2009

Wow time flies real fast. Before anything else I want to greet everybody a happy holiday and hope you have a blast last Christmas.

This year has been good to me specially after my car accident last February where I wrecked our car but came out with just just some minor bruise and a couple of loose teeth. Since then I have been more keen to just focus on working instead and it turned out well by being blessed with projects.

On skill side what I was hoping to get certified with PHP within the year is yet again shifted to next year. I’ve been quite busy with client projects and learning new skills particulary salesforce.com which we will be using on our next big project.

On business side I have registered myself as a company and would be coming up with a new product a sort of a social network business directory. I would still be sticking with my client but work on this new product as a source of passive income. Something that would generate me some money even if I’m not working I’m earning. Is this possible? Hehe. Some found out how to do it so you will never know if it would work out unless you try. So I’m pushing ahead with this goal hopefully January of 2010.

I have a lot more to look forward to in 2010 but I also have a lot of things that “could have”, “would have” for 2009. I just learned from the past and move forward and be more productive in 2010. Hope you guys do the same too. Let’s go.

Google Adwords Pending/Under Review

Seems like I’m not the only one experiencing this issue with running a new ad on Google Adwords. Previously when I run an ad it would get approved in less than 5 minutes. Now it’s more than 24 hours and my ad is still not running. The ad is even a simple one, we just wanted to run an ad so we can quickly get feedback for a survey we are conducting.

Here is a link to other users affected by this “approval system” for new ads on Google.

http://www.google.de/support/forum/p/AdWords/thread?tid=2ca794df25bdd38f&hl=en

I wonder why Google is actively promoting Google Adwords, I even get emails for free 2K to start using the ad system and I see banners everywhere, but they are soo missing a lot more potential clients on the delay on their approval system.

It’s almost close to 48 hours. I hope Google sees there is a big issue with their ad approval system.
