Fix Xcode Metal Compiler on Unreal Engine 5.7

So Unreal Engine 5.7 just got released couple of weeks ago and this is my first attempt to check out what’s the latest. If you get this error you need the Metal Toolchain as this is now required.

I believe this is not specific to UE 5.7 but rather the Xcode version you are running. Likely from Xcode 16.4 up to the latest Xcode 26.X

Simply open the Terminal and type in the command.

xcodebuild -downloadComponent MetalToolChain

Then restart Unreal Engine and you should be good to go.

  1. Hi,
Is anyone else noticing that Metal 3 (and newer Metal versions) no longer seem to be supported or exposed in recent Unreal Engine versions on macOS?
Also, performance is extremely low, even on, fresh Unreal demo projects or default templates
FPS is very poor compared to what Apple Silicon hardware should deliver.
Is this a known issue, or am I missing something?
    Thanks.
